23/4/2019 0 Comments PepsiCo's Sustainable MoveOur awareness of immense plastic waste around the world has grown significantly over the past several years and many companies are starting to do their part to reduce it. PepsiCo’s “Beyond The Bottle” initiative will allow consumers to reuse the beverage company’s bottles. The initiatives are in response to a global consumer movement to cut plastic usage as awareness of its environmental impact has increased—especially plastics’ role in polluting the world’s oceans. This move will help meet the growing consumer demand for more sustainable packaging. The reusable bottle program is made up of three components: a water dispenser, a smartphone app and a personalized QR code sticker for reusable bottles that allows consumers to be recognized by the dispenser. The app also automatically tracks users’ water intake and allows users to set their own daily hydration goals. It will also track their environmental impact with a count of plastic bottles saved with each pour.
The machines won’t dispense soda, just fizzy water—so, a fancier water fountain. The lack of cups is part of the company’s push to better its carbon footprint and also help reduce plastic overall. The sparkling-water machines will launch in June at institutions including offices, hotels, and cafeterias, offering sugar-free, carbonated water in six flavors like lemon, mint, and strawberry. As these “hydration platforms” will not have the Pepsi logo (or official beverages) available, they seem to be more in line with the SodaStream part of the PepsiCo business.
